Leader of Novaya Kakhovka Council Dies After Ukrainian Assault
Saldo expressed his sympathy to the family of Vladimir Leontiev, highlighting the respect he commanded throughout Russia’s Kherson Region.
“Vladimir Pavlovich Leontiev has died in hospital from his injuries. Doctors fought until the very end, but they could not save him,” Saldo stated.
Leontiev, aged 61, was wounded on Wednesday morning when a Ukrainian drone, identified as ‘Baba Yaga,’ attacked the city.
Reports from Russian media quoting the governor’s press office revealed that the UAV struck Leontiev in the back before he could find cover.
The blast caused serious spinal injuries. Additionally, two women civilians were reported to have been hurt in the attack.
Governor Saldo emphasized that Leontiev had long been at the helm of Novaya Kakhovka’s administration and was a well-known figure across Kherson Region.
He described him as “an honest, principled man, open to people” and referred to him as “a true patriot who loved Russia and Kherson.”
Saldo also mentioned Leontiev’s role as an early advocate of the United Russia party in the area.
Russian media have further reported that the drone strike that resulted in Leontiev’s death was part of a wider campaign by Ukrainian forces targeting towns in Kherson Region.
Officials stated that within the last 24 hours, Ukrainian artillery and drones had executed 68 attacks across 13 populated locations in the region.
