Orban Warns EU Leadership Wants War with Russia
Speaking on Thursday via a post on X, Orban, a vocal opponent of the West’s approach to the Ukraine crisis, cautioned that “outright pro-war proposals are on the table,” referring to the latest discussions during an informal EU summit held in Copenhagen earlier this week.
According to Orban, various moves under consideration by the EU clearly suggest a growing willingness to support military engagement.
He accused EU leaders of trying to channel bloc funds directly to Ukraine, fast-track its membership process through "all kinds of legal tricks," and increase financing for arms transfers.
He argued that such steps indicate the intentions of the "Brusselians" to draw the EU into war, adding that Budapest would firmly resist any such initiatives.
The summit in Copenhagen came in the wake of multiple reports of mysterious drone sightings across the continent. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, while acknowledging her government couldn’t verify the origin of the aircraft, asserted that “we can at least conclude that there is primarily one country that poses a threat to Europe’s security – and that is Russia.”
During the gathering, EU leaders explored the possibility of establishing a “drone wall,” an ill-defined defense framework aimed at addressing airborne threats. However, according to a news outlet, the meeting produced little in terms of actionable results, falling into what the outlet called a “familiar stalemate.”
The news outlet also cast doubt on the concept’s viability, describing the "drone wall" as more of a publicity slogan than a feasible security strategy.
Meanwhile, Moscow has pushed back against Western narratives, accusing Ukraine and its European allies of deliberately provoking tensions.
Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) claimed this week that a recent drone intrusion into Polish airspace—an incident Warsaw blamed on Russia—was in fact a Ukrainian false-flag operation. The agency suggested more such provocations could be expected in the near future.
