Russian Attacks on Kyiv Kill at Least Eight People
The hardest-hit city outside the capital was Dnipro, where missiles and drones slammed into residential buildings. Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed via Telegram that at least five people were killed and 25 others injured in the strikes on the city.
In Kyiv, the toll was equally devastating. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported on Telegram that three people were killed and 29 others were injured in the attacks. Mayor Vitali Klitschko separately announced on Telegram that multiple neighborhoods across the capital had lost power as the assault continued.
Massive clouds of smoke billowed from the city center as thousands of residents fled to shelters. Air raid alerts were activated across much of the country.
The Kyiv City Military Administration urged civilians to seek immediate shelter, warning on Telegram that Russian drones were operating over Ukraine and that Russian strategic aircraft had been detected alongside cruise missile launches from enemy naval vessels.
Ukraine's Air Force issued successive warnings throughout the night — flagging missile threats, multiple drone formations moving through various regions, and the potential for ballistic missile strikes. Overnight, air raid alerts blanketed a large portion of the country, according to the national alert map.
Earlier in the night, Ukraine's Air Force said that Russian forces had launched Kalibr cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea toward Ukraine — a significant escalation in the attack's geographic scope.
Across the border, Poland's Air Force announced on X — the US social media platform — that it had scrambled aircraft to safeguard Polish airspace amid the spillover threat.
