Ukraine Launches Strike on St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, Kronstadt Base

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Wednesday that Kyiv launched overnight strikes on critical Russian infrastructure, including the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal — a target situated roughly 1,100 kilometers (684 miles) from Ukraine's border, underscoring the country's expanding long-range strike capabilities.

Zelenskyy disclosed the operations via X, the US-based social media platform, confirming that Ukrainian forces also struck military installations at Russia's Kronstadt base. A weapons-production facility in Russia's Tambov region, located nearly 600 kilometers (373 miles) from the front line, was additionally hit, he said.

From the Russian side, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov confirmed the strikes on Telegram, stating that drone attacks struck infrastructure across the Kronstadt, Kirovsky, and Krasnoselsky districts in the early morning hours. He acknowledged damage to several facilities without identifying them specifically.

"Cleanup efforts are currently underway. Several people were injured. There were no fatalities," Beglov said.

The strikes landed with sharp timing — days before the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, scheduled for June 3–6 and expected to draw 20,000 participants from 100 countries.

The assault is part of a sustained Ukrainian campaign against Russian energy infrastructure. On Monday, Zelenskyy revealed that Ukrainian forces had struck 15 Russian oil refineries between January and May, claiming that nearly 40% of Russia's primary oil refining capacity was offline as of May.
