US Moves Toward Finalizing USD400M Military Aid Package for Ukraine
Speaking before a Senate committee, Rubio said the proposal is currently undergoing internal review within the government. “That’s going through the interagency process right now,” he noted, adding that further updates are expected “pretty soon.”
The funding is part of the 2026 Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which enables the Pentagon to purchase weapons and ammunition directly from US defense contractors rather than drawing from existing military stockpiles.
Although Congress approved the broader assistance package in December, its implementation has faced delays.
Rubio reiterated that US support for Ukraine remains steady, stating that it is not affected by broader regional tensions, including the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
At the same time, concerns have been raised by lawmakers and media reports that sustained military commitments may be placing pressure on US ammunition reserves.
The broader defense legislation, valued at approximately $900 billion for fiscal year 2026, includes $400 million allocated for Ukraine in 2026, with an additional $400 million scheduled for 2027 under the same assistance framework.
