Russia Says Ukraine Strike Damaged Workshop at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

(MENAFN) Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out an attack on a transport workshop at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), saying the strike caused material damage to the facility, according to reports on Saturday.

The Russian-installed administration at the plant said the attack resulted in damage to three vehicles, fuel pumps, and windows of the workshop building.

“At present, the threat of further attacks on the plant's infrastructure remains high,” the administration said on Russian social media platform Max.

Despite the reported incident, officials at the site stated that plant operations continue under staff control and that safety systems remain fully functional.

“The plant's safe operation is ensured, and all necessary systems are functioning normally. Radiation levels within the plant and its surrounding area remain within normal limits,” the statement added.

Ukraine has not yet responded to the allegations, and the claims could not be independently verified due to the ongoing conflict.

International monitors from the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have been present at the facility since 2022, following its takeover by Russian forces earlier in the war.
